Porsche

Porsche was founded in 1931 in Germany by Ferdinand Porsche. Porsche was a brilliant automobile engineer whose first design in 1901, the Lohner-Porsche was the first petroleum electric hybrid vehicle of which 300 models were sold until 1906. He went on to continue making great vehicles. One triumph, the German Tiger tank earned him praise from Adolf Hitler, if not from other Europeans. He also was responsible for the initial design of the first Volkswagen.

After World War 11 Ferdinand was imprisoned for 20 months by the French and his son Ferry kept the company going by repairing cars, water pumps and winches. The first post war Porsche, the 356 was produced for the next 17 years with 78,000 sold. Together with a royalty on every Type 1 Volkswagen (the Beetle) of which more than 20 million were built. The company prospered now owning a large share of Volkswagen AG. Today fine Porsche sports cars are in demand, such as the 9 series, the Caymen, Carrera and the super sport utility vehicle, the Cayenne.
