Peugeot

Peugeot is the 2^nd largest automobile manufacturer in Europe located in France. In 1842 Peugeot’s mill was producing pepper, salt and coffee then later bicycles such as penny-farthings. The first Peugeot car was a steam-powered 3 wheeler in 1889 and changed to 4 wheel vehicles in 1890 classified “Type” models being the first manufacturer to fit rubber tyres to their wheels although they were solid. Its first 6 cylinder car was launched in 1907. After World War 1 Peugeot began making motor cycles and cars to meet the growing demand in France while also continuing to contest motor racing events. In 1934 Peugeot introduced the 402BL Eclipse Decapotable, the world’s first convertible with a retcactable hardtop.

In 1946 after World War 11 Peugeot recommenced making cars again with the Type 202, 203 which set sales records and lasted until 1960. Cars were being sold overseas in the USA with further Type models. A difficult period followed collaborating with Renault from 1966 and Volvo from 1972. A share in Citroen was acquired in 1974 and the PSA (Peueot Societe Anonyme) group was formed also taking over European Chrysler in 1978. Present models include the Peugeot 206 and the Peugeot 307.
