From an Engineering and Construction Company in 1947 Korea’s Hyundai entered the automobile industry in 1967 building Ford’s Cortina under license. In 1968 Korea’s first car, the Pony was exported to Ecuador and other South American countries as well as Western Europe. However, designs owed much to an Italian, Giogio Giugiaro with powertrain technology provided by the Japanese Mitsubishi Motors. !985 saw the introduction of the Excel as a replacement for the Pony, though that name was retained in many countries for several years. In fact Mitsubishi also sold an Excel as a Precis until 1994. The Excel, Hyundai’s first front wheel drive became an instant success and dominated the small car market for a short while.

When the company began to produce cars with its own engines and technology in 1988 other models were introduced beginning with the midsize Sonata. The Hyundai Motor Group invested heavily in the quality of its vehicles by providing the World’s first five and ten year warranty for their cars depending upon which country they were sold. The Kia brand was added to the Group in 2006 and now Hyundais are sold in 193 countries throughout the World. Other models include:
