Bentley
Bentley Motors was founded in England in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley who made rotary aero-engines during World War 1 used in the Sopwith Camel. A famous British fighter plane of that conflict. The first Bentleys were 3 litre luxury Grand Tourers. In 1931 Rolls Royce bought the Company and produced them as sporting variants of the Rolls Royce 20/25 model until World War 11 stopped production and factories commenced manufacturing mainly engines for the war effort.
After the War Bentley cars became a Rolls Royce without the distinctive grille and badge. In the 1980s Bentley built separate high performance cars. The most successful being the Mulsanne model until being purchased by Volkswagon. Until 2003 BMW V8 engines were used in the Bentley Arnage and other models. The Bentley Azure 2-door convertible ceased production and the Bentley Continental GT was introduced powered by a VW’s W-12 engine. The Brookland brand was followed by Bentley Continental Flying Spur in 2008 as Bentley sales increased dramatically particularly in the USA.
